All's Well That Ends Well — Act 4, Scene 2: Florence. The Widow's house.

At the Widow’s house, Bertram woos Diana with flattering praise and renewed promises of love and service, but Diana challenges his sincerity and sharply points out the weakness of his vows. She compares his conduct to the behavior of men who use promises to win women and then abandon them. Bertram urges her to trust him and give herself to him. Diana then asks for his ring as proof of his devotion, and after some resistance he gives it up. She arranges a midnight meeting at her chamber window and makes him promise to stay only an hour. After he leaves, Diana reflects that she plans to trick him with her mother’s help.
