Antony and Cleopatra — Act 1, Scene 2: The same. Another room.

In Cleopatra’s palace, Charmian, Iras, Alexas, and the Soothsayer joke about fortune and marriage, while the Soothsayer gives blunt predictions: Charmian will grow older and more loving, and she will outlive the woman she serves; Iras is told her fortune is much the same. When Cleopatra enters and asks for Antony, the attendants say he is absent, so she sends Enobarbus to find him. Antony then appears with a messenger who reports that Fulvia has fought against Caesar, joined forces with Lucius, and later died in Sicyon. Antony is shaken, decides he must leave Egypt, and tells Enobarbus to prepare the officers for his departure.
