Antony and Cleopatra — Act 2, Scene 5: Alexandria. CLEOPATRA's palace.

In Cleopatra’s palace, Cleopatra tries to distract herself with music, then decides to go fishing instead, joking with Charmian and Mardian as she recalls past moments of play with Antony. A messenger arrives from Italy, and Cleopatra demands news. He first says Antony is well and friendly with Caesar, but then admits the worse truth: Antony has married Octavia. Cleopatra flies into rage, beats and threatens the messenger, then calms enough to call him back and question him again. After confirming the marriage, she sends Alexas to learn Octavia’s appearance and age, and leaves in distress, saying she faint.
