Antony and Cleopatra — Act 2, Scene 6: Near Misenum.

Near Misenum, Pompey and the Roman leaders meet under a truce, with hostages exchanged, to discuss Pompey’s terms before any fighting. Caesar presents written offers, and Pompey agrees to the deal: he will keep Sicily and Sardinia, drive pirates from the sea, and send grain to Rome if peace is sealed. Antony and Pompey trade sharp remarks, but the meeting turns social, with Pompey inviting everyone aboard his galley for a feast. After the others leave, Menas and Enobarbus stay behind and speak openly, comparing their own service by sea and land and joking about theft and loyalty. Menas wonders whether Antony’s marriage to Octavia has truly joined Antony and Caesar, and Enobarbus dismisses it as political.
