Antony and Cleopatra — Act 3, Scene 1: A plain in Syria.

Ventidius enters in triumph with Roman soldiers and the body of Pacorus, the Parthian king’s son, and declares that this victory avenges Marcus Crassus. Silius urges him to press farther into Parthian territory and win even greater glory, saying Antony will reward him. Ventidius stops him and explains that a commander’s officers must not outshine him, since Antony and Caesar are both sensitive to servants who gain too much fame on their own. He decides to send Antony a humble report of what has been achieved in his name. Silius asks where Antony is, and Ventidius says he is heading to Athens before the soldiers march off.
