Antony and Cleopatra — Act 4, Scene 15: The same. A monument.

Cleopatra waits on the monument with Charmian, Iras, and her other women, refusing to leave and preparing herself for grief. Diomedes arrives and reports that Antony is not yet dead but is being brought to her by his guard. Antony is carried in below, and Cleopatra helps have him drawn up to her. Dying, Antony says Caesar did not defeat him, but he ruined himself. Cleopatra mourns him and tries to comfort him, while Antony asks her to think of his former greatness and seek safety with Caesar’s people. He then dies in her arms, and Cleopatra faints, recovered only enough to plan Antony’s burial and resolve to face death with dignity.
