Cymbeline — Act 5, Scene 1: Britain. The Roman camp.

Posthumus appears in the Roman camp holding a bloody handkerchief and speaks in shame and sorrow over what he has done to Imogen. He reflects that servants should not obey unjust commands and wishes divine punishment had fallen on him instead of her. Seeing that he has been brought to fight against Britain, he declares that he will not strike his own country. He decides to take off his Roman clothing and disguise himself as a Briton peasant so he can fight against the side he came with and expose himself to danger in Imogen’s cause. He prays for strength and resolves to prove his worth by action, not appearance.
