King Lear — Act 1, Scene 3: The Duke of Albany's palace.

At Goneril’s palace, Goneril asks Oswald, her steward, whether Lear has struck one of her servants for correcting the fool, and Oswald confirms it. Furious, she complains that Lear keeps wronging her and that his knights are disorderly, while he himself nags her over every small matter. She tells Oswald to let the household treat Lear’s men with cold neglect and to say she is sick when Lear returns from hunting, so she will not speak with him. Goneril says Lear should go to Regan if he objects, since she expects Regan to support her. She then orders dinner prepared and plans to write to her sister.
