King Lear — Act 4, Scene 4: The same. A tent.

Cordelia enters with a doctor and soldiers and learns that her father has just been seen wandering madly in the fields, wearing weeds and singing. She orders officers to search the area and bring Lear to her. Cordelia asks what can be done to restore his reason, and the doctor explains that rest and gentle medicines may calm him. Cordelia prays for help for Lear and worries that his wild anger may kill him if he is not soothed. A messenger then reports that the British forces are marching toward them. Cordelia says the army is already prepared and explains that France is helping her only out of love for Lear and his rights.
