Othello, the Moore of Venice — Act 4, Scene 1: Cyprus. Before the castle.

On Cyprus outside the castle, Iago keeps pressing Othello with hints about Desdemona’s supposed infidelity, using talk of kisses, bed, and the handkerchief to deepen his suspicion. Othello becomes more and more disturbed, demands proof, and finally collapses in a trance. Cassio arrives, and Iago pretends the general has had a fit, sending Cassio away and then encouraging Othello’s jealousy further. Iago brings Cassio back briefly while Othello watches in hiding, and Cassio’s laughter and talk about Bianca are twisted into evidence against him. Bianca then appears and angrily returns the handkerchief to Cassio, confirming Othello’s fears. Lodovico arrives from Venice with a letter, and Othello reads it, strikes Desdemona, and publicly orders her away.
