Pericles, Prince of Tyre — Act 1, Scene 3: Tyre. An ante-chamber in the palace.

Thaliard arrives in Tyre with the mission of killing Pericles, but he immediately worries about the danger to himself if he fails. He hears the lords of Tyre discussing Pericles’s departure, and Helicanus explains that the king has gone abroad with a sealed commission. To keep suspicion away, Helicanus says Pericles left after some displeasure at Antioch and chose travel as a kind of correction. Thaliard, relieved that Pericles is no longer in Tyre, decides he can safely abandon the murder. He then presents himself to the court, says he has a message for Pericles, and is received politely by Helicanus.
