Pericles, Prince of Tyre — Act 4, Scene 5: Mytilene. A street before the brothel.

Two gentlemen come out of the brothel in amazement, talking about something so unusual they can hardly believe it happened there. They agree that they have never heard of such a thing in a place like that. One of them is especially struck that religious teaching or divinity was preached in the brothel itself. Both men declare that they are finished with bawdy houses, at least for now, and their mood has turned toward virtue. They decide to go and hear the vestal singers instead, showing that whatever they witnessed inside has made them reject the place’s usual business.
