Romeo and Juliet — Act 1, Scene 5: A hall in Capulet's house.

At Capulet’s feast, servants rush to prepare the hall as musicians wait and guests arrive in masks. Capulet greets everyone warmly, encourages dancing, and chats with an older kinsman about their own days of masking long ago. Romeo spots Juliet among the dancers and is immediately struck by her beauty, speaking to himself in admiration. Tybalt recognizes Romeo’s voice, wants to attack him, and complains to Capulet that a Montague has come to mock the party. Capulet refuses to let Tybalt disturb the celebration, so Tybalt leaves angrily. Romeo and Juliet then exchange a brief, formal conversation that ends in a kiss. After learning Juliet is a Capulet, Romeo is shaken, and Juliet later asks the Nurse who he is.
