Romeo and Juliet — Act 2, Scene 0: PROLOGUE

The Chorus announces that Romeo’s old infatuation has faded and has been replaced by a new love for Juliet, while Juliet, once admired as beautiful, is now seen through Romeo’s love for her. It explains that Romeo and Juliet are equally captivated by each other’s looks, but their families make open courtship impossible because he is treated as an enemy and she has little chance to meet him freely. Even so, their strong passion gives them the time and means to find ways to be together, bringing a sweet but extreme change to their lives.
