Romeo and Juliet — Act 2, Scene 1: A lane by the wall of Capulet's orchard.

Romeo secretly returns to Capulet’s orchard because he cannot bear to leave Juliet behind, then climbs the wall and disappears into the garden. Benvolio and Mercutio arrive looking for him and call out to him, but Romeo does not answer. Mercutio makes a long, teasing speech about love, desire, and Romeo’s supposed obsession, mocking the way lovers behave and joking that Romeo has hidden himself away with his thoughts. Benvolio sees that Romeo wants to be alone and says there is no point searching for him. Mercutio gives up, and the two friends leave the area.
