The Comedy of Errors — Act 2, Scene 1: The house of ANTIPHOLUS of Ephesus.

At Adriana’s house, Adriana worries because neither her husband, Antipholus of Ephesus, nor his servant Dromio has returned for dinner. Luciana tries to calm her and argues that men have more freedom than women, but Adriana resents the idea and complains that her husband should be no less bound to her than she is to him. Dromio of Ephesus arrives beaten and reports that when he delivered Adriana’s message, Antipholus demanded the gold he believes Dromio stole and struck him instead of coming home. Adriana angrily orders Dromio to return and fetch his master, while she continues to brood over her husband’s neglect and jealousy.
