The First part of King Henry the Sixth — Act 3, Scene 4: Paris. The palace.

At Paris, Talbot arrives before King Henry VI and the nobles with a show of military success, laying down his sword and claiming he has recovered many fortresses, cities, towns, and prisoners in France. Henry welcomes him warmly, praises his courage, and admits that Talbot has long deserved royal thanks. He then rewards him by making him Earl of Shrewsbury. After the court leaves, only Vernon and Basset remain, and they resume their argument over York and Somerset. Vernon strikes Basset, who protests that he will appeal to the king for permission to seek revenge, and the two men separate in open hostility.
