The First part of King Henry the Sixth — Act 4, Scene 2: Before Bourdeaux.

Before Bourdeaux, Talbot sends a trumpeter to the gates and demands that the city surrender to Henry VI, promising to withdraw if the French accept English rule. The French general appears on the wall and answers with confidence, telling Talbot that the city is fortified and that French forces and the Dauphin’s army are closing in around him. He predicts Talbot’s death and then leaves as the Dauphin’s drum is heard nearby. Talbot realizes he is surrounded, blames his commanders for poor discipline, and urges his men to fight fiercely rather than panic. He calls on them to sell their lives dearly and goes into battle with his troops.
