The Life and Death of King John — Act 3, Scene 4: The same. KING PHILIP'S tent.

King Philip, Lewis, and Cardinal Pandulph gather after the battle and learn that their forces have been scattered. Philip worries that Angiers is lost, Arthur is a prisoner, and many allies are dead, while Lewis laments the shame of their defeat. Constance enters in deep grief over Arthur’s capture and attacks everyone’s attempts to comfort her; Pandulph tells her she is speaking wildly, but Philip and Lewis are moved by her suffering. After she leaves, Pandulph argues to Lewis that John’s seizure of Arthur will weaken John’s rule and help Lewis’s claim. He also points to the Bastard’s violence in England, and Lewis agrees to go with him.
