The Life and Death of King John — Act 5, Scene 7: The orchard in Swinstead Abbey.

At Swinstead Abbey, Prince Henry, Salisbury, Pembroke, and Bigot gather around the ailing King John, who is carried in by attendants. Prince Henry hopes fresh air might ease the poison, but John speaks in great pain and weakness, saying he feels abandoned and burning with fever. The Bastard arrives and reports that the Dauphin is advancing, but also that much of the Bastard’s own force was lost in the flood at the Washes. Before the others can act, John dies. Salisbury and Prince Henry mourn him, while the Bastard swears to avenge him. Salisbury then reveals that Pandulph has already brought terms of peace from Lewis, and the group agrees to bury John at Worcester.
