The Life and Death of Richard the Second — Act 4, Scene 1: Westminster Hall.

At Westminster, Bolingbroke holds a formal session and orders Bagot to speak about Gloucester’s death. Bagot accuses Aumerle, who denies it and challenges him; then Fitzwater, Northumberland, and Surrey also accuse one another, and their quarrels are set aside when Bolingbroke says the disputes will wait until Norfolk’s case can be settled. York arrives and announces Richard’s resignation, declaring Bolingbroke king. Carlisle protests that no subject can lawfully judge a king and warns against deposing Richard, but Northumberland arrests him for treason. Richard is brought in, surrenders the crown, demands a mirror, breaks it in grief, asks to leave, and is sent to the Tower. Bolingbroke then names the day for his coronation.
