The Life and Death of Richard the Second — Act 5, Scene 1: London. A street leading to the Tower.

At the Tower, the Queen and her Ladies wait for Richard and grieve over his captivity. When Richard arrives with a Guard, he and the Queen speak sadly about his ruined state and the loss of his crown. Richard tells her to leave for France and live in a religious house, and he reflects that his former greatness now seems like a dream. Northumberland then enters with new orders: Richard is to be taken to Pomfret instead of the Tower, and the Queen is to depart at once for France. Richard and the Queen sorrowfully part, each trying to comfort the other while Northumberland urges haste.
