The Life and Death of Richard the Second — Act 5, Scene 2: The DUKE OF YORK's palace.

At the Duke and Duchess of York’s palace, York and his wife talk about Bolingbroke’s triumphant entry into London and Richard’s public humiliation. Their son Aumerle arrives, and York notices a suspicious paper hanging from his clothing. When he forces Aumerle to hand it over, he reads a conspiracy in which Aumerle and other men have sworn to kill the king at Oxford. York reacts with outrage and prepares to ride at once to accuse his son. The Duchess pleads for Aumerle’s life, defends him as her own child, and sends him off to beg forgiveness before York can reach the king.
