The Life and Death of Richard the Third — Act 2, Scene 2: The palace.

The Duchess of York is with Clarence’s children when they ask whether their father is dead. She hides her grief, then Elizabeth enters in deep mourning and announces that King Edward has died. The Duchess, Elizabeth, and the children all lament their losses together, while Dorset and Rivers try to comfort Elizabeth by urging her to think of her son and the new king’s coronation. Gloucester arrives with Buckingham, Hastings, Derby, and Ratcliffe, pretends to share the family’s sorrow, and takes the Duchess’s blessing. Buckingham then argues that the young prince should be brought from Ludlow with a small escort, and Gloucester agrees to the plan.
