The Life and Death of Richard the Third — Act 4, Scene 1: Before the Tower.

Queen Elizabeth, the Duchess of York, Dorset, Lady Anne, and Clarence’s young daughter meet at the Tower, where Anne says she and the others are there to visit the princes. Brakenbury arrives and refuses them access, saying Richard has ordered that no one see the boys. Stanley then enters and tells Anne she must go to Westminster to be crowned Richard’s queen. Elizabeth is overwhelmed by the news and warns Dorset to leave the country, while the Duchess grieves over the misery her family has suffered. Anne explains that she once cursed Richard but gave in to his persuasive words and now lives in fear of him. The women part with bitter farewells, and Elizabeth laments the princes shut up in the Tower.
