The Life of King Henry the Eighth — Act 3, Scene 1: London. QUEEN KATHARINE's apartments.

Queen Katharine sits at work with her women and tries to lift her sadness by having a song sung about music calming grief. A Gentleman then announces that Cardinals Wolsey and Campeius are waiting to speak with her. Katharine, uneasy, receives them in public and insists on plain English and honest dealing. The cardinals say they come peaceably to discuss the dispute between her and the king. Campeius urges her to place her cause in the king’s hands, but Katharine takes this as betrayal and angrily rebukes both men. After they continue to reassure her, she softens, apologizes for her outburst, and asks them to carry her service and prayers to Henry.
