The Life of King Henry the Eighth — Act 3, Scene 2: Ante-chamber to KING HENRY VIII's apartment.

Norfolk, Suffolk, Surrey, and the Chamberlain discuss Cardinal Wolsey’s growing ruin and the king’s anger after reading the cardinal’s papers. They learn that Wolsey’s secret letter to the pope and his manipulation of the divorce have been uncovered, while Henry has already married Anne Bullen in secret and plans her coronation. Wolsey enters, is questioned by Henry about his wealth, and is then accused of overreaching power and disloyalty. The king orders him to surrender the great seal and face a praemunire. After the nobles leave, Wolsey laments his fall, receives news from Cromwell, and urges him to abandon ambition and serve the king honestly.
