The Life of King Henry the Fifth — Act 5, Scene 0: PROLOGUE

The Chorus asks the audience to accept the play’s limitations and imagine the missing events of time, distance, and scale. He places Henry’s army at Calais, then asks the audience to picture him crossing the sea and entering England amid the cheers of women, boys, and citizens on the shore. He says Henry reaches London and refuses to have his battle-worn helmet and sword carried before him, since he gives the honor to God rather than to himself. The Chorus then imagines London welcoming him like a Roman conqueror, while French grief keeps him at home until the action can return to France.
