The Merchant of Venice — Act 3, Scene 4: Belmont. A room in PORTIA'S house.

At Belmont, Portia thanks Lorenzo for his support and speaks warmly of Antonio, whom she believes deserves help because he is so close to Bassanio. She then entrusts Lorenzo and Jessica with the care of her house while she and Nerissa withdraw to a nearby monastery, telling them her servants already know to treat the couple as their masters in her absence. Portia sends Balthasar to Padua with a letter for Doctor Bellario and orders him to bring back whatever papers and clothing Bellario gives him. After he leaves, Portia reveals to Nerissa that she has a secret plan and will travel with her disguised as young men so they can watch their husbands without being recognized.
