The Merry Wives of Windsor — Act 4, Scene 2: A room in FORD'S house.

Mistress Ford and Mistress Page bring Falstaff into Mistress Ford’s house and keep him hidden when they hear Ford approaching with Page, Shallow, Caius, and Evans. The women panic briefly, then quickly invent a new disguise: Falstaff must dress as the old woman of Brentford, whom Ford already hates as a supposed witch. While Ford and the others come in, the servants carry in the basket again, and Ford searches it angrily, convinced Falstaff is inside. Falstaff appears in women’s clothes, and Ford beats him out of the house, thinking he is the witch. After the men leave, the two wives laugh over the success of their trick and plan to tell their husbands.
