The Second part of King Henry the Fourth — Act 2, Scene 1: London. A street.

In a London street, Mistress Quickly brings Fang and Snare to arrest Falstaff for a debt she says he owes her. She angrily describes how he has cheated and used her, while Fang and Snare prepare to seize him. Falstaff arrives with Bardolph and his page, tries to drive off the officers, and mocks Quickly. The Lord Chief-Justice enters, stops the quarrel, and demands that Falstaff answer for his behavior and pay the widow what he owes. Falstaff tries to excuse himself by claiming urgent service for the king. Gower brings news that King Henry and Prince Harry are near, and the Chief-Justice leaves with Gower, warning Falstaff for lingering idly.
