The Second part of King Henry the Sixth — Act 2, Scene 4: A street.

Gloucester waits in the street with his servingmen to watch his wife’s public penance and speaks sadly about the fall from happiness to shame. The Duchess of Gloucester is brought in wearing a white sheet and carrying a taper, and she bitterly describes the crowd staring at her as punishment for her earlier arrogance. She urges Gloucester to defend himself against Suffolk, York, and Winchester, but he insists he is still innocent and should not risk breaking the law to help her. A herald then summons Gloucester to parliament at Bury. After Gloucester leaves, Stanley and the sheriff take the Duchess away to the Isle of Man.
