The Tempest — Act 2, Scene 2: Another part of the island.

Caliban enters carrying wood and curses Prospero for making him suffer constant torments from the island spirits. When thunder sounds, he hides himself, thinking another of Prospero’s spirits is coming. Trinculo then arrives, looking for shelter from the storm, and mistakes Caliban for a strange fish or island creature. He hides under Caliban’s cloak just as Stephano enters singing and drinking. Stephano finds the two hidden figures and, after some confusion, realizes Trinculo is alive. He gives Caliban wine, and Caliban quickly decides Stephano must be a god. Caliban offers to serve him and promises to show him the island, while Stephano and Trinculo laugh at the monster and decide to take advantage of him.
