The Third part of King Henry the Sixth — Act 4, Scene 7: Before York.

Edward, Gloucester, and Hastings return from France and reach the gates of York, hoping to recover Edward’s rule after being restored with Burgundy’s help. The city gates are closed, and the mayor says York now owes allegiance to Henry, so Edward first pretends he only wants his dukedom. Gloucester and Hastings help persuade the mayor to open the gates, and Edward takes the keys. Then Sir John Montgomery arrives with soldiers, but at first refuses to fight unless Edward openly claims the crown. Edward finally does so, and Montgomery joins him. Edward is proclaimed king again, and he leads his men into York for the night before marching against Warwick.
