The Tragedy of Coriolanus — Act 2, Scene 2: The same. The Capitol.

At the Capitol, officers prepare the room for the ceremony while discussing the three men standing for consul, with most believing Coriolanus will win. The senators and tribunes enter, and Menenius asks Cominius to recount Coriolanus’s service. Cominius praises Coriolanus’s courage in earlier battles and at Corioli, where he fought almost alone, drove the enemy back, and refused rewards. The senate announces that they are pleased to make him consul, but Coriolanus resists the required custom of appearing before the people and asking for their voices. When he finally exits in anger, Sicinius and Brutus condemn his attitude and decide to report it to the citizens.
