The Tragedy of Coriolanus — Act 2, Scene 1: Rome. A public place.

Menenius meets the two tribunes, Sicinius and Brutus, and the three trade insults while arguing over Caius Marcius, now celebrated for his war service. Menenius mocks the tribunes for condemning Marcius’s pride while ignoring their own faults, and they answer that he is equally known for sharp wit. Volumnia, Virgilia, and Valeria then arrive, full of joy because Marcius is coming home victorious. A herald and the returning generals Cominius and Titus Lartius enter with Coriolanus, crowned for his deeds. Coriolanus is uneasy with the public praise but greets his family and honors Menenius. After the procession leaves for the Capitol, Brutus and Sicinius discuss how dangerous his popularity is, and a messenger summons them there.
