The Tragedy of Coriolanus — Act 1, Scene 10: The camp of the Volsces.

Tullus Aufidius enters the Volscian camp bloody and tells his soldiers that the town has been taken. One soldier assumes it will be returned under favorable terms, but Aufidius angrily rejects the idea of surrender or treaty. He says that as a Volscian he cannot accept the kind of defeat he has suffered, and he vents his hatred for Caius Marcius, recalling how often Marcius has beaten him in combat. Aufidius vows that if he meets Marcius again, he will kill him by force or by trickery if needed. He sends a soldier to the city to learn how it is being held and who must serve as hostages for Rome, while he waits near the cypress grove for news.
