The Tragedy of Macbeth — Act 5, Scene 7: Another part of the field.

In the chaos of battle outside Dunsinane, Macbeth realizes he cannot escape and must fight directly. He still trusts the witches’ promise that no man born of woman can harm him. Young Siward confronts him, rejects Macbeth’s name with contempt, and challenges him to combat. Macbeth kills the young man and leaves, still mocking ordinary weapons. Macduff then enters, searching for Macbeth so he can avenge his murdered family, but he is determined not to waste time on lesser soldiers. Finally Malcolm and Siward arrive, and Siward reports that the castle is beginning to give way and that many noble thanes are fighting on their side.
