Twelfth Night — Act 1, Scene 1: DUKE ORSINO's palace.

In Duke Orsino’s palace, Orsino sits with Curio and other lords while musicians play. He asks for more music, treating it as nourishment for his love, but quickly grows restless and sends it away. As he listens, he reflects on how strongly and unpredictably love fills the mind and how quickly desire can fade in feeling. Curio then suggests hunting, and Orsino plays on the idea by comparing himself to a hart pursued by hounds, meaning his own desires torment him. Valentine arrives with news from Olivia: she has refused Orsino’s request to see her and plans to stay hidden in mourning for her brother. Orsino leaves, still absorbed in thoughts of love.
