Two Gentlemen of Verona — Act 2, Scene 3: The same. A street.

On a street, Launce enters leading his dog, Crab, and comically laments that he is leaving Verona to follow Proteus to the imperial court. He says his whole family wept at his departure, but Crab showed no sympathy at all, and he acts out the scene with shoes, a staff, and his hat to represent his parents, sister, maid, and himself. Panthino arrives urgently to say that Proteus has already sailed and Launce must hurry to catch him. Launce responds with wordplay and more joking about tides and tears, but Panthino keeps pressing him until Launce finally agrees to go.
