Cymbeline — Act 1, Scene 5: Britain. A room in Cymbeline's palace.

In Cymbeline’s palace, the Queen has her ladies gather flowers and then calls for the drugs she ordered from Cornelius. When he asks why she wants poisonous compounds, she claims she means to test them on animals and study their effects, but Cornelius privately distrusts her and gives her medicines that only dull the senses. After Pisanio enters, the Queen turns to him at once, flatteringly urging him to help her and hinting that Posthumus is powerless and useless compared with her son. She gives Pisanio the box and promises favor and advancement, but Pisanio leaves determined to remain faithful to his master.
