The Taming of the Shrew — Act 4, Scene 4: Padua. Before BAPTISTA'S house.

Tranio brings the Pedant, disguised as Lucentio’s father Vincentio, to Baptista’s house and coaches him to speak like a stern parent. Biondello reports that he has already told Baptista Vincentio is in Venice and expected in Padua. When Baptista and Lucentio arrive, Tranio presents the Pedant as the father and asks for Bianca in marriage. The Pedant agrees, and Baptista accepts the match if the dowry is suitable. They arrange to meet at Tranio’s lodging and send for Bianca. After Baptista and the others leave, Biondello tells Lucentio that the priest is ready and that Bianca should be brought to the church for a secret wedding.
