The Winter's Tale — Act 2, Scene 1: A room in LEONTES' palace.

Hermione is with Mamillius and her ladies, trying to distract herself while the boy banters and begins a ghost story. Leontes enters with Antigonus and other lords, already convinced that Polixenes has fled because Hermione and Camillo were part of an affair and plot. He takes Mamillius away from Hermione and publicly accuses her of adultery and treason. Hermione denies the charge and asks to be heard, but Leontes sends her to prison. Antigonus and a lord defend her and warn Leontes that he is acting unjustly, but he refuses to listen. He says he has sent men to Delphos for Apollo’s oracle and then leaves with the court.
